Every ware in the galaxy is used to build something and the economy is real and fluctuates based on supply and demand in game. That's not even to talk about the fairly decent story, which is where you can affect the world through your choices in a branching and exclusive story lines which change the state of the game, pitting factions against each other or unifying them.īut enough talk, here's some screenshots: ![]() I build fleets and send them off to destroy the Xenon (absolute evil) and build Defensive stations to guard important sectors where the NPC factions are vulnerable, and from where I can launch attacks or begin building up the sector for myself. From there, I stopped flying my own ships and let my pilots do it, and I usually sit in the map menu directing things and teleporting (after research) to my stations to see what's going on and letting my coffers grow. The game world TRULY evolves and bends to your will, or if you simply wish to leave it alone, runs along with the factions going about their business trading and fighting and exploring and mining and building, while you can do missions or trade or mine or fight or build for yourself.Īt the start, from your single fighter, you start to get more money, which you use to build fleets of ships that you hire the crew to go off and fly to do what you order them to, and then from there eventually owning your own headquarters and building your own stations to compete with the NPC factions. From this aspect, the Cradle of Humanity (Terran) DLC start and the latest Tides of Avarice (Pirate) DLC starts are the best, as they have really been designed to seamlessly get new players accustomed to every aspect of the game, and I mean every aspect, from flying and docking to capturing ships and designing and building entire shipyards for brand new factions that you help bring into existence or turn against each other, shaping the galaxy like some Machiavellian figure who is solely focused on dominance both military and economic. ![]() It has its gameplay mechanic quirks which need to be worked around and learned and adjusted to, but those are minor.Īt the start of the game, you're thrown onto a ship and given some basic tutorial missions to get you acquainted with the game. The bugs are eliminated, the AI is tuned very well, it looks great and has thousands of hours of playtime if you wanted. The latest patch (5.10) with all of the DLCs has turned the game from what was at launch a fairly lackluster product into something that I simply can't step away from. Perhaps all of these things were or are true.īut egosoft has in X4: Foundations created a game that I have put about 1000 hours into and the gameplay is still evolving with new and interesting challenges. Perhaps you know egosoft as a company that puts out an extremely buggy product that everyone ignores and gets low ratings.
